These paintings, (Surya I and Surya II) are named after the Hindu sun god and are a reference to light. Surya also means " light" in a metaphysical sense.

The paintings are made of tar and a paint formula I created with bronze powder and industrial-grade linseed oil. Intended to be displayed as a pair, they are another reference to duality, simply described here as a pair of opposites. I chose to use tar as a medium because of its aesthetic qualities, as well as the fact that it is made from petroleum, which is really a form of transmuted and condensed sunlight.

So I've painted the sun with sunlight.
