I made this painting around the same time I painted Wave. Here I was more interested in something approaching a naturalistic style, but with an eye toward the sublime. The sublime refers to the notion that the apprehension of something immensely powerful, vast, or prodidgious can induce a sense of awe, even horror. The result can be humbling.
